iPhone Square — Product Design & CGI Product Film

Project Overview

iPhone Square is a bold, reimagined iPhone concept designed as a non-commercial, designer-first experiment by 2069 Studio. Built around a 4:3 display ratio and a square form factor, the device challenges the traditional smartphone silhouette while still feeling unmistakably “iPhone” in its DNA.

The concept blends a retro hardware feel with a futuristic visual language. Inspired by the iconic physical buttons of the iPhone 5, this design reintroduces tactile controls alongside a side-mounted scroller dial for multi-functional use cases such as music scrubbing, volume control, UI navigation, and creative interaction.

For music lovers, the concept also brings back the 3.5mm headphone jack, emphasizing emotional, physical interaction over purely digital experiences.

The device was developed in three color variants:Silver, Midnight Grey & Reflective Metal Steel.

This project was never intended to be commercial. It was created purely as a design exploration for creatives, focused on form, tactility, and cinematic presentation rather than market constraints.

After finalizing the product design, we extended the concept into a full Apple-style CGI product trailer, featuring cinematic environments, high-contrast lighting, and premium sound design to showcase iPhone Square as a high-end conceptual device.

Project Workflow

1. Concept & Sketching

We started with rough sketches and moodboards inspired by classic Apple hardware, retro music devices, and industrial design aesthetics.

2. 3D Product Modeling

The device was modeled entirely in-house, exploring multiple iterations to refine the proportions, detailing, button layout, and overall form language.

3. Texturing & Materials

High-quality metal materials were created for each color variant, focusing on believable reflections, surface roughness, and a premium industrial finish.

4. Lighting & CGI Environments

Cinematic scenes were built in Blender with different lighting moods, reflective setups, and environment styles to give the device a premium, hero-product look.

5. Rendering & Final Film

All shots were rendered in high resolution and assembled in DaVinci Resolve for editing, color grading, typography, and cinematic sound design to complete the final product trailer.
