VFX/CGI Direction for Music Video

Project Overview

MAC10 is a high-concept music video where we led the VFX and CGI direction and produced the storyboards for director Gurjant Panesar.
The creative brief asked for a dramatic visual shift—keeping the film mostly black & white while introducing red as the new signature color to match the aggressive tone of the song and the artist’s evolving aesthetic. We also assisted with styling to make that color moment read strongly on camera.

The video draws on cinematic influences (Batman, John Wick, Negan) to create a dark, stylized world with key CGI elements: a customized Batmobile, a CGI panther, and a fully replaced CGI police-chase sequence built from on-set G-Wagon plates.
The VFX/CGI workflow ran for ~1 month and included heavy asset retexturing, environment builds, large-scale fight shoot supervision, and final compositing and color work emphasizing the red motif.

Project Workflow

1. Concept & Moodboarding

Defined the visual language—Batman vibe, Batmobile, John Wick/Negan fight energy, and the red color motif—while locking styling and makeup directions to reinforce the theme.

2. Storyboarding & Frame Sketches

Storyboarded every major beat and action frame to guide the director and VFX team, creating clear reference for timing, camera moves, and VFX plates.

3. VFX Shoot (Green Room)

Shot key VFX sequences in a rented green-room in Delhi with a full crew (gaffer, DOP, art director, stylist) to capture clean plates for CGI integration and compositing.

4. Fight Sequence Production

Executed the large-scale fight in a concrete hall, blocking and lighting to control all outdoor light; coordinated ~100 actors and a 20–30 person crew, referencing John Wick and Negan for choreography and staging.

5. Police Chase (Live-to-CGI Replacement)

Filmed the chase on a real but static G-Wagon and then fully replaced it in post—building a CGI chase scene to match plate footage while aiming for photoreal realism (one of the trickier VFX sequences).

6. Asset Sourcing & Retexturing

Procured base models (Batmobile, panther, cars, environments) from marketplaces, then retextured, customized and remodeled where needed to match the project’s aesthetic and animation requirements.

7. Environment Creation (3 Key Sets)

Built and textured three primary environments for the video, integrating CG assets with live-action plates for seamless scene transitions.

8. Post-Production & Compositing

Integrated all CG elements, cleaned plates, added simulations and effects, and composited passes to achieve cinematic depth and realistic interaction between live action and CGI.

9. Color Grade & Red Motif Finalization

Final grading emphasized the black-and-white base while selectively elevating red elements to create the intended stylistic shift and lyrical alignment.
